Half way through Fay

Well, we’re finally feeling the force of Tropical Storm Fay, something we were able to avoid on Wednesday and for most of Thursday. It was kind enough to slowly make its way up the entire state of Florida, then stop just before the bad outer bands hit Jacksonville. After a several hour long spin cycle off the coast, Fay finally started moving west toward the panhandle, and that means its coming right over us now.

Thankfully it never made to hurricane force, so we’re only getting a good amount of rain and lots of wind gusts, but thats about it. Parts of Jacksonville have already flooded, but we live in a high part of Jax, so hopefully we’ll avoid that in our neighborhood.

It was interesting to see the reactions from Steph and my employers. Stephanie was allowed Wednesday off for safety’s sake, and will be off again on Friday. Since I’m in the news biz, I was put on high alert, coming in earlier and leaving later than usual. I’m glad I haven’t had to go in during the wee hours of the night like some of my news buddies, but I have been working a little harder getting extra Fay content on our websites www.cbs47.com and www.fox30online.com, and live streaming our news broadcasts as Fay made it’s way closer to our area.

So now, we’ll sit tight until Fay completes its tour of the entire state of Florida, and thank our lucky stars that the first major storm to hit us this season wasn’t actually all that bad for us. And we’ll hope that whatever that is brewing out in the Atlantic right now will peter out before it has a chance to get it’s act together.

Thanks to all of our friends and family who have called to check on us! We’re doing great and our hurricane kit is ready. Hopefully our new flashlights will last longer than a week this time!

Mom’s been giving me updates too. They had a tree fall over onto the powerline sooo the neighborhood is hurting. BUT you know my Dad… he’s got the generator going and is a little stir crazy just sitting in the house (I think he’s been out on the fourwheeler!!!!!!) Glad you guys are ok! Poor Brandon, just be glad you’re not one of those reporters with the classic raincoat leaning into the wind, a mike in one hand and dodging debris as it wheels by :). SUCH a whiner hehe
