Touring Savannah

Saturday was a very relaxing day for us. After waking up around 10:30, we had a nice late breakfast on our back porch before heading out to experience the town.

The historic district of Savannah is basically a ton of one way roads going back and forth from the interstate to the river, so its a little confusing to tackle at first, even with a map. But we were able to make it to our destination after around 11 u-turns and 2 laps around town.

Our destination was the “Old Town Tours” which was a trolley tour that took us around the entire area, filling our heads with more Savannah knowledge than we knew what to do with, and best of all, allowing us to get off and back on at our leisure. This allowed us to hit all the desired hot spots without having to find parking, which is nigh impossible in the city.

Some highlights were seeing Paula Dean’s restaurant “Lady and Sons” (which was completely booked by the time we tried to make a reservation), the massive Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, the posh hotel “The Mansion”, as well as countless historic landmarks paying tribute to a bevy of past Savannah influentials.

We found time to eat at a cafe in the main market (see Steph’s picture below). We didn’t bring Stephs’s card reader for her digi cams, so low res cell phone snaps are all you’ll get for now…

Our day ended with an awesome late dinner at Vic’s on the River, a Classy-Casual restaurant overlooking the river, where we dined on filet mignon, and fried shrimp and oysters. Modified surf and turf I guess? After dinner, we took an elevator four stories down to the river level, and checked out the shops and clubs with the late night crowd.

Steph even had her likeness drawn by one of the street artists which was very exciting to watch develop. And we both agree, the finished product is a perfect depiction of someone who mildly resembles someone who has some of the same features as Stephanie. And I do mean perfect depiction.

Another great vacation day to look back on. And the anticipation of our anniversary on Sunday to enjoy as we sleep. Hopefully no muggings tonight!!

May I be the first to wish you both a very Happy 1st Anniversary! Your day sounds like fun to me! I’m hoping you were able to feel the charm of the city while touring. Maybe it’s not as apparent to you who still live in the south and for Steph who was raised there but I loved it. It just must be nice to be away together to share this special day and to have new things to see. Glad there were no muggings on the flip side! Enjoy your day together, the actual anniversary of that wonderful day last year…it’s all yours and always will be. Love you both lots and lots! xoxo
