Everybody loves a Top 5. I don’t know why… well, yes I do. Everyone loves their OWN Top 5 because it makes them happy. It reminds them of five times they really enjoyed themselves, while mixing-in the competitive part of human nature – I must rank you, top five things, because surely one of you must be better than the other – then applying a certain level of importance to what is essentially a pretty fickle opinion.
It’s at worst an obsessive tick, and at best a charming quirk about me. Probably #3 in the Top 5 charming Brandon quirks – ranking just behind (#2) my passion for starting a restaurant chain called “Cheesesteaks and Cheesecakes” followed by “Falafels and Waffles” and (#1) my urge to say “carrots” during any conversational lull. Frivolous Scoring
Grade school: B+
Five-star: 4/5
Word Association: Prawny
The Basics: The best aliens-come-to-earth movie in recent memory. The plot — yes, there’s plot! — is outstanding. The characters, human and alien, are real and beg for your sympathies… which you WILL give them. And even the most CGIish stuff feels so possible, that you almost forget its CGI at times.
Favorite “OHH!” moment(s): I love watching big, techy alien guns blow people into bits. And there’s plenty of that. Cool, lightning firing, air compression blasting, badass alien guns. And plenty of human baddies turning into flying raw burger particles. If you like this too, prepare to be entertained.
Whispering Oscar hubub: I hope this wins an Oscar, any way possible. Oscar winners rarely entertain. They’re either plodding, one time watchers, adapted musicals, or something starring Meryl Streep. But this entertains and has Oscar legs.
Who’s good: The hero Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copley) is both lovable and pitiful in large amounts. The digital effects team responsible for making aliens “Christopher” and Chris’s son. Can a CGI character win best supporting actor? And Chris’s son is cute and has some great lines.
Fox Watch: Wikus’ wife, played by Vanessa Haywood, provides some mandatory hotness. Albeit in only a couple scenes.
I made an appearance on Action News This Morning today at 5:30am to play and talk about the release of Madden 10. Madden release day is called “Madden Holiday” by gamers, and launch is a huge event every year.
I’m not the most comfortable person in front of a camera, but I had a great time! Check out the video below:
For those who don’t know, I’ve spent a portion of my adult life dealing with the wonderful effects of anxiety! I’ve had a lot of great people help me throughout this time that have really made a difference in my life, and helped me to understand how many people out there deal with the same stuff.
During my time, I’ve perused a lot of comment boards with messages from other sufferers, a lot of them feeling hopeless and terrified about whats happening. Today, I decided to add my own comment. But this one I intended to show them that there is light at the end of the seemingly grueling tunnel.
Here’s my post. Hopefully it helps some of them, or even you it strikes a chord for you:

Hey guys – I’m not a medical professional. But I’ve been on multiple sites like this after suffering many of the same terrible, terrifying symptoms. And I have some (hopefully) happy news.
Brandon points out the new hoop, in case you can't find it
Today was a joyous day for our culdesac.
Two of my close neighbor friends and I, all of us in our late 20’s, have been trying for the last few months to recapture our youth and figure out how we could come by an inexpensive basketball hoop for the end of the circle. After each of us showed rare patience by passing on taking the easy route and buying one from a sports store at full price, we were finally shown the light!
A free hoop! Compliments of a friend of a friend of a friend who was relocating.
And on the 9th day of August, God made the free hoop. And it was good.
For the last five days, I’ve been spending time in Albuquerque, NM with my wonderful parents. The short week has consisted of several fun outings including a trip to Old Town, many great meals at some ABQ restaurants and some nice quality time with mom and pop!
One of the highlights of the trip was today when we rode a tram, suspended from wires, up the Sandia Mountainside about 4,000 feet. The trip took around 15 minutes eack way, and the view was breathtaking at the top. If you’d like to get an idea of what it was like to hang thousands of feet above unforgiving boulders, take a look at my video below!
Thanks mom and dad for letting me hamg in ABQ with you. I had a great time!
When my friends get an iPhone, one of the first things they ask me is, “What apps should I get?” The iPhone app store is crammed full of cool applications, with more being added to the library every day. Now that Mom and Dad have joined our iPhone family, I thought I’d share…
Brandon’s Top 5 Must Have iPhone apps – All are Free!
1. Shazam – Shazam is the coolest app so far introduced for iPhone. If you hear a song playing, Shazam it, and whether you’re by yourself in the car or in a noisy restaurant, Shazam will identify the song and tell you its album info as well as provide links to download it from iTunes, listen free on Youtube, etc. etc.
2. Facebook – Obviously only a “must have” for Facebookers. But if you aren’t on Facebook, you “must have” been living under a rock! Allows almost all of the most used FB features. Status updates, photo uploads, notifications, requests. Take pictures or video on your vacation and share them on your FB profile immediately! Read the rest of this entry »
